This historic Methodist congregation began in Russell's Valley (located a little southeast of present-day downtown Russellville) as the Jones Meeting House in 1820. After a few relocations and name changes, the church settled in its current location in downtown Russellville, on the corner of Jackson and Madison Street in 1880. It eventually become known as Russellville First Methodist Church. It is said that the early church buildings had no locks on their doors, and that wood for the stove and food were always available for weary travelers.
The welcoming spirit of those early days is still alive in our congregation today. As a Global Methodist Chruch, we exist to love and serve others, expecting nothing, so that the community we touch will be transformed by Christ. We strive to fulfill this mission in various ways. Our church operates a food pantry and is home to the SPAN Program for at-risk youth, among other ministries.
Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.
Philippians 2: 2-4 (NASB 1995)
